how do you define art?

In her monthly gallery column, MFA artist Patrice Drago posted the question “How do you define art?”

So – what are your answers?

Here’s what MFA Executive Director Joann Vaughan had to say:

As always – great thoughts, Patrice. To me, art – whether visual art, performing art, literary art, is an expression of thought and emotion from the point of view of the artist. Not everyone seeing the artwork or performance – or reading the book or poem — will connect, but those who do will interpret the expression of thought and/or emotion through their own filters.

Good art should move you in some way — if it moves you, if it makes a connection with the viewer/reader – then it is good art.
