Why I’m Supporting the Annapolis Fringe Festival 2014

As the executive director of a small arts nonprofit, you might wonder why I am supporting the Annapolis Fringe Festival. It’s because I want MFA to grow.

MFA is not involved in the Fringe Festival – although some of our artists are. But the more art plays a role in Annapolis, the more opportunities there are for art and artists in our community.

If a rising tide raises all boats, then the more art there is in Annapolis, the more opportunities there are for all arts organizations. It’s not like slicing a pie, it’s more about lighting someone else’s candle.

Art builds bridges to new ideas and perceptions. And it starts conversations that strengthen our community. So, I’m supporting the Fringe Festival – just as I support the myriad of arts opportunities in Annapolis and, in return, I hope that organizers of other arts groups will support MFA. Because together we can all create a vibrant community full of opportunity.
