MFA Member Maureen Farrell
Maureen’s piece “Confident” has been accepted into the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts national exhibit For and About Women. The xhibition runs from Feb 27th through Mar 27th with a reception on Mar 4th from 6:00PM to 8:30PM.
MFA Member Janet Maher
Janet has her own exhibition up right now at Hamilton Gallery (5502 Harford Road, Baltimore, 21214) called Janet Maher: Collages, featuring all mixed media work of “anything that has made its way into her studio.” The show runs from now till Feb 28th. Click here for more information!
MFA Member April Rimpo
April had two paintings selected for the North Light’s best of acrylics book, AcrylicWorks 3: Celebrating Textures. Her pieces “Moving Up” and “Struggles in the Southwest” are featured with a synopsis of Rimpo’s textural techniques used in these. The book will be release in April 2016 and available through North Light Books and Amazon.
MFA Member Maureen Farrell
Maureen Farrell’s painting “Moving Forward” has been accepted in the 10th Biennial National Art Exhibition at the Punta Gorda Visual Art Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. The exhibit dates are Jan 29th through Mar 12th.
MFA Members Mary Ellen Geissenhainer
Mary has 2 pieces entered into a invitational exhibit with Strathmore Visual Arts at the Strathmore Mansion (10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD 20852). The show runs from Jan 9th through Feb 21st.
MFA Members Kass McGowan and c. l. bigelow
Kass and candy recently collaborated on a piece called “Simple Straw” as a part of a sculpture show at the BARN @ Maryland Agriculture Center in Cockeysville, MD. The pice is made of straw, woven and made of sisal, with chopped leaves and a straw “parquet” floor.
MFA Member Richard Paul Weiblinger
Richard had fourteen of his photos selected for a two person photography exhibition at Marymount University’s Barry Gallery from now till March 4th.
He has also been selected for a juried exhibition called Maryland State of Mind at the Maryland House of Delegates Annapolis from Jan to April.
MFA Members David Diaz, Richard Niewerth, Jean Opilla, and Marietta Schreiber
David, Richard, Jean, and Marietta are all included in the Mid-Winter Melange Quiet Waters Art Committee Art Exhibit. The show runs until Feb 14th.
MFA Member April Rimpo
During March, April Rimpo is exhibiting her contemporary figurative paintings as part of Figure Eight Plus One at Touchstone Gallery (901 New York Ave NW, Washington DC). Eight Touchstone Gallery 2D-artists plus one sculptor combine their works to flesh out the human form through photography, paintings ranging from the abstracted to representational, and sculpture.
MFA Member Erin Cassell
Erin is opening his first solo show! The exhibition is made entirely of his tie dye art and runs till Feb 24th at the More than Java Cafe (358 Main Street, Laurel MD).
MFA Member Gail Sims
Gail has a show coming up with four other artists called The Elements in Fiber & Poetry at The San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles (520 So. First Street, San Jose, CA) from Jan 8th through Feb 28th. There will also be a poetry reading and reception on Feb 7th, 2:00 to 4:00PM.

Figure Sculpture Co-op at MD Hall
Whether you are interested in traditional or abstract figurative sculpture, join the new Figure Sculpture Co-op. The Co-op provides members with an opportunity to work in a relaxed and collegial environment with a professional figure model using the sculpture medium of their choice.
Models return to their pose for three to five weeks allowing artists to progress towards completion of a single piece or to work on several maquettes. Attendees work with their own materials and tools. No critique or instruction is provided. New to sculpture, returning after a long break, or a working artist, all levels are welcome.

Call to Artists: CHAL Appetite for Art, DEADLINE Feb 16th
This March CHAL hosts its annual DC-metro area Open Call juried art exhibit based on the theme Appetite for Art. They are challenging all metro artists to interpret art and food in both 2-D and 3-D works.
This year’s jurors are Deidre Ehlen MC Williams, Public Art Project Manager and Stephen Cheung, owner of Fusion Grill and Lavagna. They will select 30 pieces of artwork and select five for cash prizes. All artists, 18 years of age or older residing in the Washington, DC metropolitan area are eligible to enter.
Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
Call to Artists: Annapolis Arts, Crafts, and Wine Festival
June 4th and 5th sees the return of the Annual Arts and Crafts Festival but this time featuring what really draws out consumers of art: wine! The Fair takes place in the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and can host up to 200 booths.
Annapolis Arts Alliance Needs You for a Mentoring Program
Who: Novice Artists and Experienced Artists. Open to all of the arts, music, poetry, painting, photography, etc. Novice artists should have rudimentary experience and be willing to publically display and sell their art. Experienced artists should be willing to volunteer their knowledge.
What: This year-long program pairs novice artists with experienced artists for six sessions of art enrichment. The program culminates in a public showing and/or performance. The art created will be available for sale.
When: The 2016 program will take place during three different seasons. There will be two sessions each season when each artist pair works together, each creating their own piece.
Where: All sessions and the public show will take place at Quiet Waters Park. All Artists will find inspiration from a common, seasonal spot within the park. Rain date will be the following week.
Winter: Ice Rink, March 5: 9 am – noon, March 12: 10 am – 11 am
Spring: Music Pavilion Meadow, June 4: 10 am – noon, June 18: 10 am – 11 am
Summer: Harness Creek, August 27: 10 am – noon, Sept.10: 10 am – 11 am
Public Show: October 19 – November 13, 2016, Reception Oct. 23 afternoon
Cost: Artists are expected to prepare their art for public viewing/performance and bring food and/or supplies to the opening reception. There may be a small fee to cover the costs of the final show.

Bethesda Painting Awards: DEADLINE Feb 19th
The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District invites eligible artists to enter theBethesda Painting Awards. Artists must be 18 years of age or older and permanent, full-time residents of Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C. The selected artwork will be on exhibit in June 2016 at Gallery B in downtown Bethesda, MD.
Looking to brush up on your acrylics or watercolors?
Christine O’Neill will be hosting a workshop and a series of classes at the Chesapeake Fine Arts Studio. MFA Members will be given a 10% discount!
In this workshop, both traditional (thick, tube acrylics) and newer types of acrylics will be addressed (Golden fluid Acrylics). We will work on both canvas and watercolor pape
