MFA Member Richard Hall

Richard has had two pieces juried into the 2017 Juried Art Show at Adkins Arboretum (12610 Eveland Rd, Ridgely, MD 21660), one of which was given an honorable mention. This show runs through March 17th. For more information click here to go to the Arboretum website.

Two of his pieces gave also been entered into Below Zero of the Liberty Town Arts Workshop (916 Liberty St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401). The show runs through February 26th. Times and gallery location are found here on the Liberty Arts website.

“Bitter Wind- Winter Shelter”

Richard is participating in the Queen Anne’s County Centre for the Arts 7th Annual Small Works exhibition and fundraiser.  His contribution is a distressed image of the fishing boat Capn Collins II taken in Somerset County, MD.  The show will be up through February 25th. The winners are chosen on the 25th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the closing reception.  See the Queen Anne’s County Arts website for further information.

Richard has had his photographs selected for an exhibition at the Arts Barn Gallery in Gaithersburg MD. The show runs through February 27th, 2017.

MFA Member April M Rimpo

April has a solo exhibition called Common Threads up at Touchstone Gallery (901 New York Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001) from March 3rd through April 2nd. In this exhibition she explores repeated images from around the world, demonstrating what is common and yet different in near and far places. One of these threads looks at how places deal with volumes of traffic, while other threads look at architectural structures.

Department of Natural Resources Stamp Design Contest

Each year the Maryland Department of Natural Resources hosts the Maryland Black Bear Conservation (21st) and Migratory Game Bird (43rd) stamp design contests. These contests will take place April 28th at the Ocean City Convention Center. They are seeking artists to enter these contests. 8th Annual FOTA Art Scholarships

Friends of the Arts (FOTA), Annapolis, Maryland, is pleased to offer two scholarships of $2,500 each for the academic year 2017-2018 to art students permanently residing in Anne Arundel County. Qualified applicants must attend an accredited college.

Submit your application by Midnight April 28th, 2017.

CALL FOR ENTRY: Image and Imagination at the Mitchell Art Gallery

The Mitchell Gallery invites artists 18 and over, currently living or working in Anne Arundel County, to submit up to three (3) works of art for review. Entries must be original fine art in any media, including furniture, jewelry, and textiles, created within the last three years (2014 or later). The juror is Christopher With, Adult Educator from the National Gallery of Art (retired), and current President of the Washington Print Club. Artist online entry for submissions is open from January 18th through March 12th. Cash Awards total $1,000 and will be presented on May 23, 2017, in the categories of Best in Show, Best Two-Dimensional Work, and Best Three-Dimensional Work.

Call for Artists in Residence in Whiskeytown, CA

The National Park Service at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in Northern California is hosting its fifteenth year of an Artist in Residence program and is now accepting applications. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is 3 hours north of San Francisco just outside of Redding, California.
The National Park’s Artist-in-Residence Program at Whiskeytown National Recreational Area offers established visual artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while being surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park. The park provides a rustic cabin for participants for up to a three-week residence.  This residency focuses on landscape painting of Plein Air, impressionist and abstract styles. In exchange for the residency, we ask the artist to donate one painting of Whiskeytown that was produced during their stay.
The deadline for entry is February 28th, 2017. Selected artists will be notified by park staff in mid-March, 2017.  Selection is based on artistic merit, the statement of intent, and appropriateness to a National Park residency.

Call for Artists: River Artist Chestertown

Convergence at the Edges: Exploring the dynamic intersections where land meets water, air meets earth, man meets nature, the built meets the wild, upland reaches lowland and the wood’s edge opens to fields.

Each April, Chestertown’s RiverArts celebrates the community’s long tradition of environmental conservation by hosting The Art of Stewardship Exhibition. Artists and poets are invited to submit work that reflects a moment, experience, realization or vision of nature that inspires a new outlook or reflects on the theme of Convergence at the Edges. Poetry and all varieties of two- and three-dimensional artwork, which are relevant to the theme, will be considered.

Image & Imagination: Anne Arundel County Juried Exhibition 2017

The Mitchell Gallery is pleased to present this juried, multi-media biennial exhibition of artists who live or work in Anne Arundel County. Works created in diverse media within the last two years will be on display and features both two-and three-dimensional artwork. Christopher With, educator (retired) National Gallery of Art and current president of The Washington Print Club, is the exhibition juror.
