We’re excited to present the 30 juried artists for Paint Annapolis 2017! Come see them paint June 4th-11th around Annapolis and the greater Anne Arundel County area.
Coming from a family of artist, Craig has always been associated with painting and the art business. His father was a well-known water colorist in the ******* area and taught him how to paint at an early age. As years went by and his father’s health declined, Craig would take him on long countryside drives where we would stop and paint or take photos of the old barns and landscapes that he loved so much.
Craig majored in art at his local junior college and throughout his career studied under some of the artists that he admired, such as Donny Finley, Dmitry Proshkin, Roger Dale Brown, and Greg Larock.
I’ve always been drawn to the weathered barn struggling to live on despite the rusted nails that hold it. Porches with chipped paint, the patina on a well-used farm tool, dilapidated harbors, and algae crusted shrimp boats; all tell a story of lives well lived. Every scar filled scene calls out to me. The way the light and color play off these scenes is what inspires me to paint.
He became very active in the art industry during the 80’s while also working in the steel industry. He participated in many juried shows and art events. In 2006 he opened Craig Reynolds’ Studio and Gallery at which time he became a full time professional artist.
I believe that being an artist is a never-ending learning process and I continuously experiment with new techniques and design principles. I became very interested in painting en plein air again in 2006 and have discovered that it brings life into my work. I enjoy seeing the world with new eyes through painting en plein air and am continually interpreting any and every scene as a potential painting.
