We’re excited to present the 30 juried artists for Paint Annapolis 2017! Come see them paint June 4th-11th around Annapolis and the greater Anne Arundel County area.

Greg Johannesen developed his interest in art at an early age. Growing up near the beach, the outdoors and nature have always been a major part of his art experience. After grade school, Greg had the honor to study under accomplished artist Suzanne Stevens, where he first experienced painting en Plein air.

In college, Greg followed his passion for art and earned a degree from Tidewater Community College for Advertising Design with a minor in Drawing and then attended Virginia Commonwealth where he earned a BFA in Illustration. Working for a variety of clients, Greg’s commercial work spans 25+ years.

He has illustrated numerous books, designed hundreds of print materials, and created interactive content. Greg was trained as an illustrator but has retained the soul of a fine artist, always allowing himself the freedom and time to paint.

When Greg moved to Maryland in 2002, he opened a studio and is currently working as a full-time illustrator, graphic designer, and painter. In his fine art, Greg takes inspiration from nature. He finds that immersing himself in the outdoors somehow liberates his creativity.

His work is influenced by the Chesapeake Bay — workboats, boat yards, waterways, and grand bay views provide ample inspiration for his paintings. Greg currently paints with pastels which enable him to produce vibrant and expressive pieces.
