We’re excited to present the 30 juried artists for Paint Annapolis 2017! Come see them paint June 4th-11th around Annapolis and the greater Anne Arundel County area.

Painting and drawing have always been a big part of Paul Maloney’s life. His formal contact with art and craft started with acceptance to the National College of Art and Design Dublin Ireland where he trained as an art teacher but, upon graduating, embarked on a career as a potter.

As with lots of us, family and work commitments meant little time for painting. Eventually, Paul set up his own pottery while occasionally dipping in and out of painting. In 2008 Paul made a conscious decision to become a better painter and travelled abroad to paint. He is currently part of a weekly Life Drawing Group and in 2010 Paul won 1st Prize in Art In The OpenPainting is now a significant part of his life.

“Painting Plein air is total immersion in both subject matter and process. I like to think I get more than a” painting” but an intense experience of time and place. My life as a potter reflects that desire for immediacy and spontaneity. Plein Air events offer the opportunity to learn from others, I must admit I do like the competitive aspect of these events, all good natured of course!”
