We’re excited to welcome Lon Brauer back again from Granite City, Ilinois as a juried artist for Paint Annapolis 2022! Lon Brauer is known for his figure and plein air landscape paintings. He studied in St. Louis, Missouri at Washington University and Fontbonne University earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Brauer’s esthetic is inspired by early 20th Century Realism and the Golden Age of Illustration. Born in 1955 Brauer was influenced by Abstract Expressionism resulting in a style of traditionalism and avant guard.

He began college studying biology but changed his focus to art and concentrated on both painting and graphic design.
“Dad was a pharmacist and I was tapped to do the same but I had always leaned heavy on art throughout my early years and that was where the passion lived.“
– Lon Brauer

“There is a wonderment that comes with the creation of an image in paint. A malleable substance stored in a tube is transformed into a visual metaphor that can touch memory and emotion. I paint figure and landscape. I paint in studio and en plein air.”
– Lon Brauer

After graduating, Lon began working at a photography studio and eventually became one of St. Louis’ top photographers. He worked as a photographer for 30 years with advertising agencies and design firms.

“I look for things that I’ve never seen before or that I think will live within the broad world of art making with some relevance…”
– Lon Brauer

Lon Brauer has shown his work both nationally and overseas. He holds signature membership with Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Outdoor Painters Society, and American Society of Marine Artists.
