Site:Brooklyn – Geometric Variations

Deadline: October 10, 2022

Medium: all media

Art and geometry share several fundamental connections: line, scale, pattern, space, shape, form, and dimension. This is clear from Renaissance attempts to represent three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface, to the geometric forms at the core of a Cezanne still-life, to the Cubist’s use of shape to break up linear perspective and show objects from multiple, simultaneous points of view. Modern and contemporary art, abstract, representational, figurative, all have questions of space, and geometry, at their core. Site:Brooklyn is seeking work that continues to engage with this deep and yet ever-changing relationship.

WWCC – Contemporary Printmaking

Deadline: October 7, 2022

Medium: Printmaking

The Art Gallery at Western Wyoming Community College is pleased to accept submissions for Contemporary Printmaking. Printmaking occupies a unique space in the contemporary art world. Printmakers, while often among the most experimental and cutting-edge artists, are also paradoxically reliant on highly traditional processes. We are interested in showcasing prints that speak to contemporary issues, explore fresh perspectives, or generally demonstrate the breadth of possibilities available while working–either partially or fully–within the idiom of hand-pulled prints.

MARYLAND FEDERATION OF ART – Light and Shadow

Deadline: November 2, 2022

Medium: All

Where there’s light, there must be shadow. Whether an artist knows it or not, light and shadow are essential to all forms of art, either as the subject of the piece, or the material being used to create it. From the dramatic chiaroscuros of the European Renaissance to the interactive and immersive experiences of Mary Corse and Yayoi Kusama, light and shadow continuously fascinate artists. Pieces that play with this dynamic are eligible for MFA’s 5th annual Light and Shadow exhibition.
