“I love taking a pristine white sheet of paper (or canvas) and just having fun applying color (any water media), adding textures, mark making and experimenting with different mediums in these chaotic starts.” -Janna Zuber (artist statement attached)

MFA Member Lee Goodwin

The BlackRock Center for the Arts has asked Goodwin to provide a photo for an exhibit celebrating the Center’s 15th anniversary. The photo they requested is Lock 7 in Fog, which is one of Goodwin’s favorites, but one that they rarely have an opportunity to show any more.  It is a traditional gelatin silver darkroom print of a photo taken along the C&O Canal with a Mamiya 7 medium format camera, which was their main camera for years until they went digital. The exhibit will run from September 8 to October 12 at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, MD. The BlackRock Center is a beautiful venue, and Goodwin had one of their first exhibits there in 2009 (Lock 7 was included in that exhibit). You can read Claudia Rousseau’s very kind review of that exhibit here:

MFA Members Linda Celestian & Linnea Tober
Nov 2- Jan 9, 2019
Beckler Family Gallery
Flow is a joint Friends exhibition featuring artwork by local artists Linda Celestian and Linnea Tober. Together, they accentuate the flow of matter and bring attention to our natural world using contemporary techniques and traditional processes.
Flow celebrates low and high-tech studio practices, from painting to Photoshop, to express their love and appreciation for the natural world and their relationship to it. Flow comments on the fluidity with which artists navigate media and thought, like ideas forming a river, picking up experiences along the way, eventually leading to a body of artwork. Celestian and Tober use that sense of “flow” to guide them through their creative expressions.
