We’re excited to welcome Kirk Larsen from Hicksville, New York as a juried artist for Paint Annapolis 2022! Kirk has always been an artist – he’s been drawing his whole life, and painting in oils since age seven – and he’s never met a medium he didn’t like.

He has won over 170 awards in various media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, drawing, colored pencil, mixed media, pen and ink, photography, and sculpture.

“I enjoy the camaraderie, competition, and creativity of plein air events, as they inspire me to continually expand as an artist.”

– Kirk Larsen

Kirk has had over 63 solo shows and a multitude of juried art shows. His work is in both museum and private collections across the United States, and in England, Ireland, Russia, Germany, Netherlands, Estonia, China, and Curacao. He is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, and a member of the Salmagundi Club NYC, American Society of Marine Artists, the American Impressionist Society, Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, and New York State Plein Air Painters.

“Two friends Hanging out,” oil, by Kirk Larsen

“Plein air painting combines two of the greatest things on the planet… being outdoors and creating art. I love discovering new places and having the opportunity and challenge to capture the feeling, the vibe and essence of that place whether it be dramatic or serene in paint, right there on the spot. The subject can be spectacular or mundane and the act of painting it brings a closeness and familiarity just as much as getting to know a person. The joy of that creation can then be multiplied tenfold when someone gets to take that piece home and share that joy with others, for generations to come.”

– Kirk Larsen

Kirk is an avid sailor. Classic, modern, and one-design yacht racing have fueled his inspiration for nautical and maritime artworks. He has been featured in many nautically themed exhibitions, including one at the Mystic Seaport Museum of America.
