We’re excited to welcome Richie Vios from Austin, Texas as a juried artist for Paint Annapolis 2023! Richie travels all over the United States conducting watercolor workshops and competing in plein air events when he can.

He was born and raised in Cebu City in the Philippines and comes from an artistic family. In 1995 Vios graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, before he and his family left for the United States in 2004 in hopes of a better future.

When Richie and his family first moved in 2004 they resided in Clearwater, Florida where Richie was able to work as an architectural designer at a local architectural firm. His family then moved to Baltimore, Maryland while he returned to the Philippines by himself in hopes to introduce them to more Western architectural concepts.

During the time he spent back in the Philippines, he worked on and refined his unique mastery and techniques of watercolor which is still evident in his art to this day. He later rejoined his family in South Texas in 2017 where he is able to “chase the American dream again”, but as a watercolorist and plein air artist rather than an architect.

“The subject in front of me is my inspiration, complemented with my imagination, charged with my passion, and a personal impression is embodied in my watercolor works.”
-Richie Vios
